Hudson River Sloop Singers
The Hudson River Sloop Singers originated with the first crew of the Clearwater in 1969. To raise money and publicity for the sloop, the crew of musicians, which included Captain Allan Aunapu, Gordon Bok, Don McLean, Pete Seeger, Jimmy Collier, Len Chandler, Fred Kirkpatrick, Fred Starner, Jack Elliott, Andy Wallace, and Jonathan Eberhart, performed dozens of concerts at ports between Maine and New York. After the maiden voyage, the crew of the Clearwater remained musically-oriented, and at times musicians affiliated with Clearwater have continued to perform as the Hudson River Sloop Singers.
Most active in the 1970’s and 1980’s, the Sloop Singers have released three albums. In 1974 and 1977 they released Clearwater and Clearwater II. In 1986 they released Broad Old River, which was re-released as a cd called Broad Old River 2 in 2009. The Sloop Singers reunite annually at Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival in Croton Point Park.
