Jacob Bernz is a young singer/songwriter balladeer. He sings with honesty and a great appreciation for the musical tradition he’s now a part of. Born and raised in the heart of the Hudson Valley of New York, Jacob grew up surrounded by the musical friends and colleagues of his father, including Pete Seeger. In 2007, Jacob co-founded the Something to Say Café, a place for teenagers to express themselves. He ran the acoustic cafe in Beacon, NY until 2010. Now age 21, he is a prolific songwriter writing songs for the times. Jacob plays to both large and small audiences as a solo artist, and also with his two-time Grammy-winning father, David Bernz and with Clearwater’s Power of Song. Artists that have influenced Jacob’s music include Pete Seeger, Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, Tom Paxton, David Bernz and many musical friends. He has performed with Pete on numerous occasions and also shared the stage with other well known artists such as Arlo Guthrie, David Amram, Guy Davis, Livingston Taylor, Suzanne Vega, Janis Ian, Tom Chapin, Tom Paxton, Toshi Reagon, and Peter Yarrow, performing on such prestigious stages as The Guthrie Center, The Tarrytown Music Hall and Symphony Space in New York City.
Jacob is a founding member of Clearwater’s Power of Song group. In 2010, he released his first solo CD entitled “Footprints” comprised equally of original songs and his interpretation of folk classics.
